According to the Tianjin Quality Supervision Bureau, the "Tianjin Jewelry Street Service Specification" (referred to as the "Code") has officially come into effect. This marks China's first comprehensive service standard tailored specifically for the jewelry industry.
The new regulation covers a wide range of aspects aimed at improving customer experience and maintaining high service quality. It outlines clear requirements for the overall environment of jewelry stores, including well-maintained walkways, bright and consistent lighting, and proper display of merchandise. The guidelines also emphasize that items on shelves should not be considered as commodities but rather as carefully curated products.
For instance, merchants are required to arrange products with similar functions or related categories in a way that creates a strong visual impact. Items should be categorized by size, quantity, and type to establish a clear hierarchy and enhance the perception of abundance. Additionally, high-value jewelry must be displayed separately, while regular pieces should be arranged in optimal numbers and proportions to maximize visual appeal.
Beyond physical presentation, the Code also introduces standardized rules for the "soft qualities" of service. Sales staff are expected to maintain a professional appearance, speak clearly and politely, and avoid using offensive language. They are prohibited from wearing headphones, using mobile phones, eating snacks, or engaging in personal activities while on duty. Furthermore, employees must be familiar with basic fire safety procedures and emergency protocols to ensure the safety of both customers and staff.
This initiative is seen as a significant step forward in elevating service standards within the jewelry sector, promoting professionalism, and enhancing consumer trust. By setting clear guidelines for both product display and customer service, the Code aims to create a more transparent and enjoyable shopping experience in Tianjin’s jewelry district.
