The complaint was brought to the attention of the newspaper, and it quickly became clear that the quality of the product raised serious concerns. A friend who works in the garment industry warned Mr. Lou about potential issues, prompting him to send the trousers for testing at the Jiangsu Provincial Textile Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute.
The test results revealed a significant discrepancy between the labeled and actual composition of the product. According to the label, the RABBIT KING trousers (Item No. 2802, Size 100/Red) contained 10.1% cashmere, 67.7% wool, and 22.2% polyester. However, the actual measurements showed only 3.2% cashmere, 47.4% wool, 9.0% polyester, 10.2% polyamide, 28.6% viscose, and 1.6% spandex. This major deviation led Mr. Lou to believe that the product was misleadingly labeled and potentially substandard.
After receiving the test report, Mr. Lou contacted both the manufacturer, Jiaxing City Rabbit Embroidery Cashmere Co., Ltd. (known as Rabbit King), and the Binjiang Commercial Building, seeking clarification and compensation. However, the company denied producing the RABBIT KING wool trousers, claiming they were counterfeit. Despite repeated requests for a written statement, the company failed to provide one. Meanwhile, the commercial building remained unresponsive.
When the newspaper reached out to Rabbit King, the general manager, Huang Jian, stated that the company had never produced the RABBIT KING wool trousers sold by Binjiang. He suggested the products might be fake and promised to investigate before September 10. Later, a representative from the Tianjin branch of Rabbit King clarified that while the samples were not mass-produced, they had been temporarily displayed at Binjiang. However, this explanation did not satisfy Mr. Lou, who continued to seek resolution.
Contacting Tianjin Binjiang Commercial Building proved difficult, as the media inquiries were directed to the General Office of Economic Affairs and Management. Multiple calls went unanswered, leaving Mr. Lou without further assistance.
Legal expert Guo Haiyue from Beijing Haodong Law Firm explained that under China’s Consumer Rights Protection Law, businesses are obligated to address consumer complaints, including repairing, replacing, or refunding faulty products. If fraud is involved, consumers may also be entitled to double compensation. Mr. Lou could file a formal complaint with the relevant authorities using his purchase receipt and other evidence.
The incident highlights the importance of corporate responsibility and transparency. Companies like Rabbit King, which hold prestigious trademarks and national exemption status, must uphold high standards of quality and honesty. Failing to do so not only harms consumers but also damages the company's reputation and long-term viability. In today’s competitive market, maintaining trust through consistent quality is essential for any business to thrive.
