Australia finds rare natural pearls in pink with a history of 2000 years

澳洲发现罕见天然珍珠

The natural pearls discovered by Australian researchers in an ancient ruin have been around for 2,000 years.

According to a comprehensive foreign media report, Australian scientists said on the 3rd that they discovered a "very rare" natural sea pearl of 2000 years old when they were excavated in the western part of Australia.

Sabor, an associate professor at the University of Wollongong, said that when archaeologists excavated an Aboriginal site on the northern coast of Kimberley, the pink-goldened pearl, similar to a sphere, was about 5 mm in diameter.

According to the report, the university's archaeologists spent four years using non-invasive techniques to analyze pearls to determine their vintage and avoid damaging it. In the end, the carbon dating method confirmed that the pearl was about 2000 years old.

Natural pearls in nature are very rare. Researchers say the pearl is "irreplaceable" because it is the only pearl in Australia that has been found in ancient ruins.

Indigenous people used pearl oysters to pray for rain, and in the middle of the desert more than 1,500 kilometers away, they found oyster shells. Archaeologists know the rain ritual, but it is not clear how long history can be traced back.

The pearl is scheduled to be exhibited later this month at the Maritime Museum in Perth, and the details of the pearl are published in the Australian Archaeology Journal.
